Building Better Programs

Pathways for Advancing Careers and Education

The Pathways for Advancing Careers and Education (PACE) project, formerly known as Innovative Strategies for Increasing Self-sufficiency (ISIS), a ten-year effort funded by the Office of Planning, Research & Evaluation in the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Administration for Children and Families (ACF) and led by Abt Associates Inc., is a rigorous evaluation of next-generation strategies for increasing the economic self-sufficiency of low-income individuals and families. Currently, the PACE team is working with 9 programs in 18 locations across the United States to test innovative career pathways programs. These programs include community colleges, community organizations, and state agencies. The programs chosen as PACE partners have a strong existing career pathways intervention or the elements in place to develop one quickly, the size and scale to meet the statistical requirements of the evaluation, and the capacity to implement a random assignment evaluation.
